techno heads look away, but any 80's officionados, or songwriters will enjoy them, and probably the emulator II is the best all rounder - but if you want wub wub basses.maybe not. They wont hold up in modern productions by themselves, but if you want an authentic spice, or write more sound design / soundtrack stuff then thumbs up. The interface is great and you get a feeling that they have put quite a lot of care into them. Some people will scratch their heads thinking - what will I do with these low fi strings and cellos? However with careful layering and editing you can create some fantastic period sounds with all the character of the original machines. They are expensive, require an ilok etc and of course you cannot sample into them and are stuck with the sounds. The drums in particular are stunning - if you like that 80's sound. They dont emulate in software, the sampling artifacts, but the sounds themselves are nice and crusty and authentic. That said, the samples that come with these plug ins are excellent. Those UVI instruments are not really sold as full emulations of these machines, they cant be for all kinds of reasons.
